What we collect (almost nothing) and why

1. The short version
Probate Navigator is a free informational site. There are no user accounts, no payments, no lead-selling, and we do not run any analytics or advertising scripts. We do not collect, store, or see any personal information about you on a server. The only data this site stores at all lives in your own browser, described below.
2. What is stored, and where
Two small, optional interactions store data — both entirely in your own browser:
- "Was this page helpful?" feedback widget — if you click Yes or No, that single response is saved to your browser's local storage so the page remembers you already answered. It is never transmitted to us. If you click "Tell us what was missing" after a "No," your email app opens a pre-filled message — sending it is entirely your choice, and nothing is sent unless you press send yourself.
- Theme preference (light/dark mode) — saved locally so the site remembers your choice on your next visit.
Neither of these is sent to any server we operate. We have no database, and no way to see what any individual visitor has stored in their own browser.
3. Hosting and infrastructure
The site is hosted on Vercel, which processes standard web-server logs (such as IP address and request metadata) to serve pages and detect abuse, under its own privacy policy. We do not layer any additional tracking, cookies, or analytics on top of this.
4. External links
Every "next step" and source link on this site points to an official GOV.UK or institution page and opens in a new tab. Once you follow one of those links, that site's own privacy policy applies — we have no visibility into what happens after you leave.
5. Your rights
Because we hold no personal data on our own servers, there is nothing for us to provide, correct, or delete on request — the data described in Section 2 lives only in your browser, and you can clear it at any time via your browser's site-data settings. If you believe this site has collected something it shouldn't have, or you have any other privacy question, contact us using the details below.
6. Changes to this policy
If what this site collects ever changes, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly.
